At Sundown, animals are the heart and soul of our existence. Currently, we are working to secure private land that will host a variety of programs such as our Veterans’ Quarters, Chapel, Rainbow Bridge Memorial Garden, seasonal family functions, cookoffs, auctions, weddings, birthday celebrations, summer camp, social engagements, biking, hiking, picnicking, swimming, fishing, health & fitness, camping, tours, social engagements, and more.
The nature preserve will promote the following:
- A haven of uncontaminated land, fresh water, and clean air.
- The protection, enhancement, and restoration of both endangered and non-endangered species.
- The relocation of animals from zoos/other places where conditions are not suitable for animal husbandry.
- The fulfillment of both social and economic requirements of present and future generations.
- The establishment and maintenance of proper conditions, allowing man and animal to co-exist in structural harmony.
- Requiring government agencies to develop and implement standards and procedures to protect environmental quality.
We will also provide: Educational Classes – Adult:
Pros and cons of exotic pet ownership (lifetime sanctuary stewardship, NOT adoption placement). Importance of wildlife and its direct effect on our ecosystems. Proper solutions for nuisance wildlife and relocation services. Domestic & exotic pet ownership and in-home trouble issues. CPR and first aid training for pet owners. Pet Loss Support groups.
Educational Classes – Children:
Understanding, respecting, and developing proper, healthy relationships with animals both in the wild and in the home. Hands-on class time observing multiple nonreleasable exotic lifetime residents (educational ambassadors) to determine lifetime sanctuary stewardship requirements — NOT pet placement for adoption — for healthy, species-appropriate care.
Summer Camp – available for kids to have a safe place to go while school is out, while getting them off their phones and back into nature.
